We visited the Supersalone del Mobile of Milan 2021 to find more design trends for our tile stores in Miami, Prosein Doral and Prosein Aventura. This is the first international event dedicated to the sector since the pandemic’s beginning, and here are some of the lessons we learned.
You can think big in the post-pandemic era. Even though the pandemic process can’t be considered fully over yet, this edition of the event showed the product of 18 complicated months for all the players of the furniture and interior design industry. Directed by the curator Stefano Boeri, the event had more than 68520 square meters. It had approximately 1900 designs in exposition, more than 420 brands and 50 independent designers, 170 projects of 48 international design schools, 20 of the most influential figures of the current creative landscape, 110 chairs awarded the Compasso d’Oro, and 6 great chefs in the gastronomic spaces giving lectures on food.
Sustainability is not only in theory. For the first time, presenters didn’t build stands of their own, but they showed their products and ideas on the venue’s walls. Furthermore, there were cardboard trash cans and several wooden facilities that were recycled. All of this gave the show an “impact zero” certification.
There is value in person-to-person contact. Even though we celebrate how vital digital tools have been for us in these past few months in order to comply with all biosecurity measures, the Supersalone confirmed that it’s worth it to have the materials, accessories, and equipment in front of us, as well as specialized personnel presenting it and answering questions directly.
The digital complement is powerful. The Salone del mobile Milano premiered a new digital platform to create an experience that harmonized with the event. The platform allowed us to watch the products and even preorder them, and it gave us virtual access to presentations and conferences and the possibility to interact and do business. www.salonemilano.it
